I grew up in Essex, and then moved to York for my undergraduate degree. I got a masters in physics where my project was studying the fundementals of quantum mechanics in electrons.

I’m now at Heriot Watt Uni for a PhD in chemsistry. I live with my younger sister, and we love watching films and playing boardgames together

My favourite videogames right now are Celeste, Silksong, Minecraft, Baldurs Gate 3, and Cyberpunk 2077.

My project specifically looks into how simple molecules behave when their electrons have a higher energy than normal. In the real world this can occour when the molecule is hit by some high energy light.

Atoms are made of a nucleus and electrons, with the electrons orbiting the nucleus. The electrons from one atom can interact with another atom, which causes bonding. If the electrons have more energy, then the way they bond and interact changes.

I investigate this by using supercomputers to solve equations that describe how electrons behave.

I usually wake up at 8am, I spend about an hour getting myself ready before having either cereal (honey cheerios) or toast (marmite) for breakfast. I then defrost my lunch (usually chilli) in the microwave and put it in a flask so it stays warm.

I start walking to the campus at 9:30am, and I get to the office at 10am.
I then start doing my research work. This could involve learning from textbooks, writing code, or analysing data from a finished simulation.

At 12:30pm me and the others in the chemistry institute go for lunch, we have lots of funny conversations!

I get back to my desk at around 1:30pm, and continute working till around 5pm. After this I go home and cook dinner, then I usually end the day by playing games online with friends.
