How I use Maths in my work:
I use a surprising amount of trigonometry at work: to work out how forces are applied to a structure and how that affects it, I need to make sure I know exactly which direction everything is going in.
Because I look at a wind turbines in the deep-water ocean, I need to model waves which involves complex equations, and a lot of sines and cosines!

My Work:
I design and assess the foundations of offshore wind turbines. I have to model structures and waves to make sure the whole ~200m tall turbine doesn’t fail.

My Interview
-
What did you want to be after you left school?
I didn't know at all! I just knew I wanted to be involved with renewable energy and learn about mechanical engineering.
Were you ever in trouble at school?
I always got into trouble for my terrible handwriting and being quite messy. I didn't always do homework, but I tried my best to listen and actively participate in class and that's where I learned the most.
If you weren't doing this job, what would you choose instead?
I would choose to study art, or maybe study for a doctorate in engineering
Who is your favourite singer or band?
My favourite band is Rage Against The Machine. Maybe that's why I got in trouble in school ?
What's your favourite food?
I love fried chicken! With chips of course
If you had 3 wishes for yourself what would they be? - be honest!
1 - To be slightly taller 2 - To have better music taste 3 - To have an endless supply of fried chicken
Tell us a joke.
Sorry, I didn't hear that, could you repeat the question ?
