I had to teach a class this year on quantum computing, but I never learned about this topic in my own degree(s) — I had to teach myself all the material and research. That was pretty challenging, but it’s part of what a mathematician does; teach themselves new material so they can help others research and discover something new.

The most challenging thing I am doing at the moment is my PhD studies. Working on a big open ended project is hard and requires a lot of determination and perseverance. To support myself during this time, I make sure to celebrate every little win!

The most challenging thing I do as a vet is to help animals to stay calm and to help owners when their animal is unwell. the animal doesn’t understand that I’m there to help them and if they’re in pain or feeling bad they might be scared or stressed. And owners are often stressed about their animal so I have to make sure I help the owner as well as helping the animal.

Probably learning how to use new software or get a piece of equipment to communicate in a short space of time, mainly when I am on site trying to get things setup for the customer.
It can be really challenging as I don’t always have access to a phone to call another team member for help or a connection to the internet to look up any errors codes. I have to do some research before hand to cover any issues that might arise but there will always be something that doesn’t quite go to plan.
