Most jobs you get in the field of maths and statistics will have some practical application. It is up to you to decide what field you go into and whether you believe it improves lives. I chose education and assessment (researching the design of GCSEs and A levels). Some of my work has helped influence government policy to improve the exams for students.

Maths sneaks its way into most jobs, so it will always be helpful to know Maths.

For example, there’s a lot of maths that goes into building houses, bridges and sky scrapers.
Also, a lot of medicine requires precise calculation of doses and treatments. There’s also a lot of maths that goes into designing the machinery like x-ray and ultrasound machines.
In fact all sciences use a lot of maths, and maths allowed us to put a man on the moon!
Maths can help us predict the weather and natural disasters, so can help to keep people safe.
Maths has also helped us design computers, smart phones and the internet, which help people by giving them access to all the world’s knowledge.
I’m sure maths will continue helping people for as long as people keep studying it.
