Because I would’ve loved to have participated in something like this when I was in school 🙂

When I went to study maths at university, everyone asked me if I wanted to be a maths teacher. Maths teachers are amazing but I was frustrated by this question because there were so many other careers that use maths that I could do with a maths degree. I hope by chatting to students on things like this you will see some of the careers that stem from maths!

I really enjoy the fast pace and unpredictable questions! I also enjoy representing creative mathematicians and female mathematicians, in particular providing the point of view that you don’t ‘have to’ choose between being and a mathematicians and other identities.

Because I enjoy these chats! But also because it’s something I would have loved in school. I always wanted to meet scientists and talk with them, but I wouldn’t have asked any questions out loud – and I lived in quite a rural area so no-one really visited. I love that these online chats mean even very shy people can join in.
